Peggy Plamer was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives in 1996, following the retirement of Kenny King, 77th District Rep. for 16 years. She ran for 3 terms and won 3 terms. In 2002, Peggy decided that she would rest from being a public servant, so she gave her house seat up, which was won by Everett Johnson. During her 6 years as 77th district representative, she became very popular and respected as a State Representative. She was well known as a legislator that always stood up for her constituents! She has always been on "The Kansas Taxpayers Network" list of top legislator's voting against tax increases.
In 2004, loyal supporters of Peggy Palmer encouraged and pleaded with her to run for the State Senate, in order to represent them once again with her conservative views. It required a massive campaign effort to defeat a 12 year incumbent, but the job was accomplished ! During her first year as Senator she received The Kansas Republican Assembly "Most Courageous Conservative " award for her courage and determination during her campaign and for also, being a mainstay and proponent for the passing of the "Marriage Admentment" which she vowed during her campaign would be her first order of business. She was once again, on "The Kansas Taxpayers Network" 100% list of legislators not voting for tax increases. Peggy opposes tax increases and is committed to reducing tax burdens on families and businesses, fostering an environment that will promote growth and attract new jobs to Kansas.
"I want our children and grandchildren to have the hopes and dreams we had growing up. Hardworking Kansas folks love their families and want them to have a future in Kansas which means providing quality education and job opportunities"
