Paging  is a great opportunity for middle school and high school students to experience the legislative process and to meet other young people from across the state.

Qualifications required to page for Senator Palmer:

* Must be 12 years of age.
* Must have a ride to and from the Capitol.
* Be able to arrive by 8:30 a.m. and stay until 3:45 p.m.
* Dress appropriately * no torn jeans, tee shirts, etc. If you are in either the JROTC or Scouting Programs, you may wear your uniform. Wear comfortable shoes as you will be required to use the stairs rather than the elevator during your stay at the Capitol.

Your lunch period usually will be from noon to 1 p.m. However, if you are scheduled to page toward the end of the session in April, the lunch break could be later in the day. You will not be asked to leave the Capitol, but may leave for lunch.

When the Senate is in session, you will be paging for 40 senators. You will sit at the front of the chamber and, when a senator*s page light is on, you will take turns with the other pages in assisting senators. During your time on the Senate floor, you may be asked to retrieve mail from a senator*s office, retrieve a bill draft from the Document Room or deliver documents from one senator to another.

You will have your picture taken with the Governor (if she is in town) and/or Senator Palmer. A picture and a certificate will be available to you prior to your departure from the Capitol.

During the remainder of the day following adjournment of the Senate session, you will receive a tour of the Capitol and be available for errands or other assignments, such as stuffing envelopes, filing, or running copies.

Each senator is assigned a limited number of paging slots during the session. It is important to get your request in as early as possible if you desire to page.  Please fill out the following form and submit it to me, as soon as possible to get on the 2008 paging roster

You will receive a confirmation letter, which will indicate the room number for your 8:15 a.m. check-in, a parking pass and parking instructions.

If you are unable to come on your scheduled date, please call Senator Palmer's office as soon as possible. Your early notification will provide an opportunity for another individual on the waiting list to page.
